KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 6, 2011) - The Kannapolis Intimidators and the team's Major League affiliate the Chicago White Sox are proud to announce the Intimidators roster for the 2011 season. The Intimidators, who are preparing for their 11th season as the Class A affiliate of the White Sox, will feature six of Chicago's Top 30 prospects, according to Baseball America.
Returning to the Intimidators for 2011 are starting pitcher Jacob Petricka, the seventh-rated prospect in the White Sox system, and centerfielder Trayce Thompson, who Baseball America lists as the ninth-best farmhand for the Sox.
Catcher Mike Blanke enters his first full season of professional baseball after a strong 2010 campaign with Advanced Rookie Great Falls. Blanke hit .329 with seven homeruns and 43 RBI, earning MVP and Pioneer League All-Star honors.
Other White Sox Top 30 prospects on the Intimidators roster this season include RHP Addison Reed (13th), Blanke (14th), RHP Matt Heidenreich (27th), and LHP Spencer Arroyo (30th).
Five players selected by the White Sox in the 2010 players draft will take the field for Kannapolis this season, and the team welcomes back a total of 14 players who spent time with the Intimidators last season.
Tommy Thompson takes over as manager of the Intimidators for 2011. He spent the 2010 season as a roving coaching assistant for the White Sox. Before that he managed the Baltimore Orioles Carolina League affiliate to a championship in 2007. Thompson is joined in Kannapolis by Pitching Coach Jose Bautista and Hitting Coach Charlie Poe. Jeremie Imbus returns as Strength & Conditioning Coach, and Scott Johnson, who enters his 23rd season with the White Sox, will serve as the team's trainer.
Kannapolis opens the season on Thursday, April 7 in Lakewood against the defending South Atlantic League Champion BlueClaws. The team will open at home on Friday, April 15 against the Hickory Crawdads at 7:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Season and single-game tickets are available online or by calling (704) 932-3267.
